Wæm Yanǐ-dìn (/ˈjanɪ/ /dɨn/ [poet] [past]) is a subtropical Town located in the Rm-96pyohěkhka District of the Federation of Alveria.

The name Wæm Yanǐ-dìn is derived from the Constructi language, as Wæm Yanǐ-dìn was founded by Rë̌ Ya̋chvēy 'Moon Twinkle' Jónv Goûftaw̄ Bé̄kīb Trêbrtepí, who was culturaly Constructi.

Climate

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a yearly average temperature of 26°C (78°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 30°C (86°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 22°C (71°F). Wæm Yanǐ-dìn receives an average of 220 cm/y (86 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Wæm Yanǐ-dìn covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 3794 m (12447 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn was founded durring the late 14th century in winter of the year 1289, by Rë̌ Ya̋chvēy 'Moon Twinkle' Jónv Goûftaw̄ Bé̄kīb Trêbrtepí. The establishment of Wæm Yanǐ-dìn suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn was built using the conventions of Constructi durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Wæm Yanǐ-dìn is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber and earth construction, with most buildigns first floors resembling mounds of earth, with subsequent floors appearing as elaborate log cabins, with each building forming a tiered pyramid of sorts fromed from the stack of rectangular, peek roofed cabins. Most wooden bracing, support, and trim is carved with decorative knotwork, and the larger structures even feature painted trim which emphasises the knotwork.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn is buildings folow an organic layout of crampt gravel streets whihch gives the town a shape simmilar to a tree, if one views its streets from above. The town sits behind a stone-renforced palisade wall, with stone gatehouses and timber drawbridges for their trench. The would-be-castle fortifications has suffered a visible ammount of structural damage, leaving them effectivly useless. One can't help but wonder why the has not yet effected repairs.

Before you’ve even set foot into the heart of Wæm Yanǐ-dìn, you can smell it. The incense. It hangs about the town like a cloud. Monks, priests, and clerics are everywhere, all dedicated to the same divine, all performing the same rituals to bless and anoint buildings, streets, people, animals, you name it they are or have blessed it. The same holy symbol is everywhere too. Its on buildings, on people, and even branded into livestock. This certainly loves its divine. Asside form the revrent worship, you can see the citizens are preparing for something, and that something isn’t good. Weapons are worn openly. Defensive structures have been recently constructed to guard less used areas of the town. Merchants seem very eager to sell their wares at discount prices. Something is coming.

Civic Infrastructure

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Wæm Yanǐ-dìn.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Wæm Yanǐ-dìn's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its fluid and florid elaborate style, comprising ornate, asymmetric designs and pastel shades. It is often considered to be a playful, light style, which made exuberant use of curves and emphasized subtle asymmetry in the general shape of its structures. Walls, ceilings and moldings are decorated with numerous interlacing of curves and counter-curves based on the shapes of ‘C’ and ‘S’, along with shell forms and other naturalistic shapes.

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is skipped in Wæm Yanǐ-dìn.

The Assassin Bug, Giant near Wæm Yanǐ-dìn are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves line dance to channel Necromancy energies of tier 1 via moments of science.

Economy

Rather than repairing them correctly, a series of new roads was laid atop the old, leading to the streets of modern Wæm Yanǐ-dìn suffering from potholes, cracking, and even sinkholes. The locals often repair the road by putting down wooden decking.

History

Wæm Yanǐ-dìn is still bloodied by a recent violent conflict. A crushing bandit raid, a lost siege, getting caught at the periphery of a major battle, or some other calamity has inflicted severe damage on the place. Some communities may suffer a longer-term version of this, their youths lost in a grinding, endless battle against some perpetual threat.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Wæm Yanǐ-dìn was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Wæm Yanǐ-dìn lost 154 people, 206 livestock, and 98 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 185, when members of Wæm Yanǐ-dìn's militia enacted an operation to scout a specific location for information about a particular fortification. The operation was complicated by a key segment of the operation that deepened entirely on a stealth mission going perfectly. The conflict ended with a last stand against the enemy until a particular event occurred, which ended in a crushing defeat for Wæm Yanǐ-dìn's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Wæm Yanǐ-dìn's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
